Reconsider, Baby: Giving Your Goals Another Shot

Blues legend Lowell Fulson’s song "Reconsider Baby" resonates far beyond its soulful lyrics—it holds a lesson that’s as relevant as ever, especially for those who’ve stumbled on their New Year’s resolutions. As Fulson crooned, "So long, oh, I hate to see you go," you might feel the same about the promises and goals you set for yourself at the start of the year.

If you’ve already given up on your resolutions, take heart. Today is a great day to *reconsider* and try again. Dreams don’t have expiration dates, but sometimes they need a little adjustment to fit where you’re at. Perhaps your goal felt too overwhelming, or maybe you weren’t sure how to start. That’s okay. Life is a process, and so is achieving your aspirations.

Consider this your blues-inspired nudge: Why don’t you reconsider, baby? Instead of quitting entirely, reshape your goals to make them more applicable and attainable. Break them down into smaller steps, or seek out resources to guide you. A stumble is not the same as failure—it’s just a pause before you press on.

The beauty of goals lies in their flexibility. You can revise, refine, and restart as many times as you need. The key is to keep trying and not give up on yourself. Like the blues, life’s rhythm has ups and downs, but the melody carries on.

Today, I’m reminded of how grateful I am to still have the opportunity to try. The chance to pursue dreams, no matter how big or small, is something worth celebrating. Reconsider your goals, give yourself the time and patience you deserve, and keep moving forward.

Here’s to chasing dreams and singing the blues.
