Three Year Anniversary

This week was busier than usual.

This was the three year anniversary of my guitar journey. It was three years ago this week that the Mrs. went to Johns Hopkins to have a brain tumor removed. Our lives changed forever. I bought a motorcycle.

I decided to enlist the services of a very accomplished, expat I met online, living in Cambodia to teach me music fundamentals. When ever I speak to Dr. George Hess, I learn something.  I wanted to learn how to speak his language.  The retired professor is jazz guitarist now, living the dream. He teaches online and it was an easy lift for him to make time for me to do this.  The only downsize is that this virtual class is late at night when my brain has turned to mush.

Nothing good ever comes easy.

Secondly, after a suggestion from a guy I have encouraged, I am changing my ocassional guitar journey postings to be more in the style of YouTubers.  I am adding a little personality to the channel.

I also, decided to rebrand from the name Music by Spoon to the Marlboro Man Band.  It was a calculated move.  Like having a "podcast network" it gives the appearance of something more than what it was.  More importantly it changes my perception and matures my focus.  If it is a joke,  I won't take it serious.  I am in it to win it now.  I want to unlock the next level and prepare to fight the boss.

The boss here looks like me.  He is the thief of joy. He is complacency. He is fear. He is hard work.  He is a guy staring into the last quarter of his life and trying not to make the same mistakes of others in his group.

My old world of Second Amendment activism returned this week.  I took a class about self defense in Maryland. I heard some new views to some old issues. It was interesting to see what was being taught twenty years after I began.  I went to the range for the first time in five years.  I called up an trainer I haven't spoken  to in awhile just to touch base.  And another called me to learn we are both on a guitar journey.

Wondering how my interview on Armed American Radio is going to go tonight. Is this a distraction or something else for the guitarist once known as the Black Man With A Gun?
